This new oceanfront home was constructed to replace an aging summer cottage with a New England shingle-style residence. Accomplishing the desire to capture long distance, panoramic ocean views, required an in depth understanding of the challenging constraints of a limited site area and the effects of seasonal storms. The resulting structure elevated the home in such a way as to achieve the goal of placing all major rooms in the open plan design within the views. Due to the closeness of the adjacent properties and streets, privacy for the owner was accomplished through the use of a raised floor structure and carefully located porch railing that provided upward view screening from the street while maintaining open and enjoyable views of the ocean from within.
